THE STORY

Air Force Major Frank Cross is a public and media hero. He has become a representative of what the modern military should be. But to his superiors and colleagues, he's a screw-up who can't be trusted. In an attempt to keep him out of trouble and improve his political standing, the President has him assigned as his black-bag carrier, whose sole responsibility is to follow the President around carrying the bag that contains the country's nuclear launch codes. On his first day, the bag is stolen by a group of terrorists lead by ex-marine Colonel Murphy. Seizing a nuclear missile silo with the help of insider Lieut. Decker, Murphy plans to hold the country hostage in an attempt at revenge against the President for ordering the bombing of his men during a covert operation. The President must kill himself live on TV or watch Washington evaporate. To save himself and his country, Major Cross must regain the bag before it can used.

THE CHARACTER

Lieut. Decker is a keeper of the missiles. One of those men who have gone through rigorous training and psychological testing just to assure their bosses that if the moment ever comes toe press the button that they will do it without blinking. They spend 12 hours of their day in a cement bunker half a mile under ground waiting for the President's order to launch their nuclear arsenal. Decker is a weak link and is convinced, for money of course, to help this renegade team. Col. Murphy assures that any missiles that are launched will be programmed to self-destruct long before impact. Alleviating Decker's fears of being responsible for mass destruction. He is betrayed by Murphy and must eventually come to grips with the consequences of his actions.

" Decker was a very contained character. The role required me to do a great deal of research on nuclear missile silos and the men that work in them. I was able to get in touch with a retired military man over the Internet who actually had a similar job to Decker. This correspondence was invaluable and provided me with inside information on the psychological makeup of those with their finger on the button.. "
