THE
STORY
Ray Coleman (a well-known police detective) and his wife Heather
are your average middle class couple. One day after a Sunday get
together at their home with friends. Heather is found bludgeoned
to death by a neighbor who sees two burglars running from the
house. The friends quickly arrive on the scene for consolation
and comfort. The police are already there when Ray and his younger
brother Duncan arrive. Ray is devastated by his wife's grizzly
murder. They had just stepped out for an hour to pick up supplies.
Detective Higgins and her partner arrive to begin their investigation.
She is tough, meticulous, does not adhere to the Blue Wall of
Silence mind set that most cops have. The friends, Ray and Duncan
must now stay put and submit to the Higgin's tactics. She believes
that the crime was committed by one of them and not the burglars
that the police are now chasing. The friends sit and wait. Slowly
the skeletons start to come out of the closet and the recriminations
start flying. It seems that suburbia is not as rosy at it appears.
THE
CHARACTER
Duncan
Coleman is a high strung, argumentative and emotional individual.
A car mechanic who knows cars and not much else. A terribly insecure
and shallow man. He treats his wife Maureen quite badly and probably
beats her as well. He idolizes his brother Ray and is fiercely
loyal to him. If Ray did not kill his wife then Duncan did. No
matter what Duncan is in it with Ray and will protect him at all
costs. He is also terrified of prison. There are no shades of
gray in his world everything is black and white. Of the group
he some how does not fit in and is only tolerated because he is
Ray's brother.
COMMENTS
" Obstruction Of Justice was a small film made by two young
first time filmmakers who managed to scrape up enough financing
to make the film. When I first read the script a year before shooting
it was a different story. It focused on the group of friends and
the unraveling of that dynamic caused by a murder amoung them...
